Captain Lynn Fitzpatrick, MSRE

A jack of all trades, Lynn's sailing journalism career started with her efforts as Regatta Chairperson of the 2006 Snipe Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship, the largest regatta in the event's 56-year history.  The regatta was a finalist for the St. Petersburg Trophy, awarded by US Sailing for the best regatta in the United States during the year.  Lynn's sailing articles, columns and event coverage have appeared in North American and international publications such as Seahorse International Sailing Magazine, BoatInternational USA, Cruising World, Sailing, Southern Boating, Star Lights, Sailing Scuttlebutt, Scuttlebutt Europe, Sail-World and numerous  other sailing-related websites.

She provided extensive coverage of the Star class during the 2007 ISAF Sailing World Championships in Cascais, Portugal, on behalf of the class and is on board once again for the 2008 Star World Championships in her own backyard, Miami.  As the only non-Chinese member of the Sailing Committee of the "Good Luck Beijing" Olympic Test Regatta in Qingdao, China in August 2007, she provided daily previews and recaps of all 11 Olympic Classes to the organizers for distribution to media throughout the world.   Lynn returns to Qingdao this summer to cover Olympic and Paralympic sailing for the Olympic News Service.  Everything points to her returning to Qingdao to cover the Volvo Ocean Race before and during its stopover in Qingdao.

She was also the primary written journalist covering the Monsoon Cup, the grand finale of the 2006-07 World Match Racing Tour.  The regatta was held in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia.  Lynn capped off the year as one of two American journalists at the 21st Annual King's Cup in Phuket, Thailand, the largest regatta in Asia.  She is a member of the Miami-Dade County Olympic Development Committee.

Maritime Experience:
A passionate sailor at an early age, Lynn grew up at the Babylon Yacht Club on Long Island's South Shore.  She was a sailing instructor and a member of Tufts University's Varsity Sailing Team during the early 1980's when the team was one of the top ranked sailing teams in the country.    She was named All American Crew and Best Crew in New England during her senior year, the year that Tufts University won the National Championship title in sailing.

Lynn continues to sail competitively, both as a skipper and as a crew.  Having lived in the Boston, New York, Newport Beach, and Miami areas, she has participated in countless one-design dinghy and keelboat regattas and seasonal series. She had done deliveries in the Atlantic, Pacific and the Mediterranean.  Lynn holds a Master of Yachts 200 Ton Offshore License with a specialty in sailing.

Waterfront Redevelopment Expertise:
With extensive commercial and institutional real estate experience, she has consulted to private developers, municipalities, and Fortune 100 companies regarding financing, leasing, planning, and development issues.  She has participated in public/private joint ventures to redevelop waterfronts throughout the Atlantic seaboard and in the Caribbean. She has contributed her professionalism by working with the City of Miami and many Biscayne Bay sailing community organizations in spiriting Miami's sailing legacy and championing the redevelopment of underutilized municipally owned waterfront parcels to enable greater access to the Bay by the community.

Lynn holds a Masters of Science in Real Estate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Center for Real Estate and a Bachelors of Arts with a major in English from Tufts University.
